1) Coronavirus (COVID - 19) Situation
All necessary measures are being taken in response to the developing COVID - 19 situation. These measures also affect the Pan American Deaf Basketball Championship and Pan American Deaf Tennis Tournament that are to be held from April 29 to May 3, 2020 in Montreal, Quebec. To help prevent the spread of COVID - 19, the Canada Government has implemented new public health restrictions. They affect the following:
* Events with more than 50 attendees that involve international participants, critical infrastructure staff, seniors, or other high - risk populations;
* Large events with more than 250 attendees, including sporting events, conferences, and community events; and
* Flights from outside of Canada are limited to arriving in Montreal until June 2020
Given this highly unusual situation that is beyond our control, the Canadian Deaf Sports Association (CDSA), with the approval of the Pan American Sports Committee for the Deaf will postpone the Pan American Deaf Basketball Championship and Pan American Deaf Tennis Tournament.
2) Event Postponed
The CDSA in partnership with Dé fi Sportif/AlterGo are in discussion, in order to host the event in October or November 2020. We will monitor the situation very closely in the next few weeks. CDSA would like to make an announcement to the Pan American countries between June 1st and July 15th, which is at least four months before the event being held in the fall.
